BATTER The breadsticks are dipped into a sweetened batter with cinnamon and vanilla, then baked in the air fryer to crispy perfection. It’s that simple!

Variations

  • Add some maple syrup to the batter or swap out milk for juice.
  • Or make baked French toast sticks with raisin bread or banana bread. As long as the sticks are thick enough to soak up the batter, anything goes!

Air Fryer Recipe Tips

  • If you’re ready to make homemade French toast sticks but your bread is too soft, it’s easy to dry it out! Set slices out overnight on a baking sheet, or bake them in a slow oven at 200°F for about 10 minutes. Let the bread cool before cutting into sticks.
  • Preheating the air fryer is important because as soon as the hot air hits the food, it starts to crisp up on the outside which makes the interior of the food tender.
  • To keep Air Fryer French Toast from sticking, be sure to spray the basket with cooking spray before frying.

Walking Tacos – Spend With Pennies

Walking Tacos are as much fun to make as they are to eat! Ground beef tacos are piled on tortilla chips (or corn chips) right in the bag.

Add a spoon and your fave toppings for an out-of-the-box gathering! Try single-serve Doritos (or Fritos) as the base.

What is a Walking Taco?

Walking tacos use a bag of tortilla or corn chips topped with taco meat and taco toppings. They’re served right in the chip bag for easy prep and little cleanup!

  • It’s a portable meal that can be prepared on the fly and eaten on the go. Tastes just like the food truck original!
  • Great for a party with a topping bar, let everyone make their own!
  • Swap out the beef for ground chicken or even pulled pork.

What’s in a Walking Taco?

CHIPS Use single-serve 1 oz. bags of chips. Have several flavors on hand, so everyone can choose their favorites. Frito bags, Doritos, or plain corn chips can all be used. Have a pair of scissors on hand for cutting the tops off of the bags, this makes for easier prep!

MEAT Ground beef is our meat of choice, but feel free to prepare ground chicken or turkey as an alternative. Make enough for each bag to have 1/4 cup of seasoned meat added.

SEASONING A taco seasoning packet is used for easy prep, but feel free to make a homemade taco seasoning instead.

FILLINGS  It’s fun to create a taco bar where everyone can make their own walking taco. Plus, no plates to wash! Have bowls of Tex-Mex cheese, salsa, sour cream, guacamole, cherry tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and definitely bell peppers or jalapenos.

How to Make Walking Tacos

This has to be one of the easiest party-food recipes ever:

  1. Cook meat with seasonings. Chop or shred vegetables & prepare the other add-ins.
  2. Crush each bag of chips a little, to make more room inside, then snip the top off.
  3. Add 1/4 cup of meat to each bag, then layer toppings as desired & enjoy!

What to Serve with Walking Tacos

Walking tacos make a great side dish or main dish, depending on the occasion! Serve them alongside a big bowl of Corn Salad or with Mexican Corn (Elote).

A big pitcher of Lime Margaritas or fresh lemonade is a great refreshing drink with this recipe.

  • While keeping doritos inside the bag, gently crush until chips are slightly broken.

  • Add a heaping ¼ cup of taco meat to each bag.

  • Layer your desired toppings directly into the bag of chips and toss with a fork before enjoying.

This serves 6 and can easily be doubled or tripled if needed. You’ll want 1/4 cup of seasoned meat for each serving.
Meat can be prepared and kept warm in a slow cooker.
You can use your favorite flavor of Doritos, Fritos, corn chips, or other tortilla chips to your liking.
The add-ins are optional, so each walking taco can be personalized to your own taste/preference.

Chipotle Ranch Dressing – Spend With Pennies

Chipotle Ranch Dressing is a favorite dressing or dip perfect for salads, fries, or even pizza crusts!

A simple mixture of mayo and sour cream is combined with our favorite ranch inspired seasonings and chipotle peppers.

What’s in Chipotle Ranch Dressing?

BASE: Mayonnaise, sour cream, and milk give the dressing its rich and smooth base. You can swap out the sour cream for low carb Greek yogurt.

SEASONINGS: Fresh lime juice and cilantro add a bright fresh flavor. I also like to add parsley, garlic, and onion powder.

CHIPOTLE PEPPERS: These peppers are smoked dried jalapenos and they can be purchased in a can in adobo sauce. This makes them easy to chop and add to your favorite dressings and sauces. They have a nice smoky flavor and a bit of heat.

Where to buy Chipotle Peppers

Small cans of chipotle chiles in adobo sauce are found in most supermarkets with the Latin or Mexican ingredients. You can also get them online.

SUBSTITUTIONS: If you don’t have chipotle peppers, substitute a little bit of dried chipotle powder or even other diced peppers with a bit of smoked paprika. Mild diced green chiles or finely chopped jalapenos can be used.

How to Make Chipotle Ranch Dressing

It doesn’t get much easier than two very simple steps:

  1. Whisk all of the ingredients in a bowl until thoroughly combined.
  2. Pour into a container and chill at least 2 hours before serving.

Dip Tip To turn this from a dressing to a dip, skip on the milk. This will make the mixture nice and thick.
